Today, 28 December 2023, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova ratified the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 190 on the elimination of violence and harassment at work.

The National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova appreciates the decision of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova taken today. The ratification and implementation of the Convention will contribute to the improvement of the legislation in this field and to solving the issues arising in the field of labour.

During the meeting of the Women’s Committee of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova held today, Igor Zubcu, President of the CNSM, mentioned that the ratification of this document is an important victory for women trade unionists in the Republic of Moldova, who have played an important role in promoting the ILO Convention No. 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the world of work.

Considering the importance of the Convention, the CNSM has repeatedly insisted on the ratification and the proper implementation of ILO Convention No. 190 in order to combat the scourge of violence and harassment in the world of work, with a focus on gender-based violence. The present Convention sets out the steps that governments and social partners can take to mitigate the impact of violence and harassment in the workplace.

In addition, the ILO Convention No. 190 is a reference instrument. It is the first international labour standard to address violence and harassment in the world of work. Together with ILO Recommendation No. 206, it provides a common framework for action and a unique opportunity to shape a future of work based on social justice. The documents were adopted in 2019 at the International Labour Organization Conference, and have so far been ratified by 24 countries.
