The President of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), Igor Zubcu, participated on March 18 in the event “Invisible Accelerators of Human Capital for Demographic Resilience,” organized by UNFPA, UN Women, and the International Labour Organization. Discussions focused on current labour market challenges, with particular emphasis on the need for people-centered public policies in the context of workforce migration and ongoing social changes.
In his remarks, the trade union leader stressed that trade unions essentially represent society as a whole—workers, pensioners, and future generations—and that respecting the rights of every citizen must remain a priority. He noted that the Republic of Moldova should align with European and international labour standards, stressing that the European integration process requires joint efforts from authorities, employers, and trade unions.
A key topic addressed was the outflow of labour and skilled professionals, a trend that calls for effective policies to retain and develop human capital within the country. In this context, Igor Zubcu highlighted the need to ensure decent and competitive working conditions aligned with European standards.
He also emphasized the importance of work-life balance, noting that achieving this objective requires coherent policies and the active involvement of all social partners. Examples of good practices were highlighted, including the creation of childcare facilities at workplaces and initiatives designed to support working parents.
At the same time, the CNSM President reiterated the role of trade unions in promoting fairness in the workplace, including through the campaign “Be the Voice of Equity in the Workplace!”, which encourages respect for workers’ rights, equal opportunities, and the fight against discrimination. The importance of social and civic dialogue was also underlined, alongside the need for active engagement from all stakeholders in shaping a future of work based on social justice and equality.
Igor Zubcu also drew attention to existing wage disparities, emphasizing the need for policies aimed at reducing inequalities and ensuring fairness for all citizens.
