Bilateral cooperation in the field of protecting workers’ rights was at the center of discussions between the President of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), Igor Zubcu, and the delegation of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic (KOZ SR), which paid a working visit to Chișinău on 24 February.
The meeting was attended by František Gajdoš, Vice President of KOZ SR, Michal Nemec, Advisor to KOZ SR, and Miroslav Hajnoš, International Secretary of KOZ SR and member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
The parties addressed issues related to strengthening trade union cooperation in the context of the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the exchange of experience and best practices in defending the rights and interests of employees who are trade union members.
The agenda included CNSM’s current priorities, in particular:
“We are open to developing cooperation between the two Confederations. In the context of the Republic of Moldova’s efforts to join the European Union, the exchange of experience and the adoption of best practices are essential for us in order to strengthen the protection of the rights and interests of workers, trade union members in the Republic of Moldova,” emphasized Igor Zubcu.
In turn, KOZ SR Vice President František Gajdoš expressed the Slovak side’s willingness to support the European path of the Republic of Moldova through active trade union cooperation, including joint projects, training activities, and exchanges of experience.
During the discussions, Igor Zubcu, in his capacity as President of the ITUC Pan-European Regional Council (PERC), encouraged Slovak trade unionists to remain actively involved in regional activities and to contribute to promoting peace, social dialogue, and social justice in the pan-European area.
The parties reaffirmed their shared interest in deepening dialogue and developing joint initiatives aimed at addressing current labour market challenges, particularly in the context of increasingly accelerated economic and digital transformations.
The Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic (KOZ SR) was founded in 1990 and brings together approximately 216,000 trade union members. The organization is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and is an active partner in promoting workers’ rights at the European and international levels.
