ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo, together with Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, are on a two-day official visit to Moldova. On Wednesday 10 April, the officials met representatives of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM).
Igor Zubcu, President of the CNSM, talked about the work of the trade union movement and the problems it faces in the context of the multiple crises in Moldova, about the social dialogue process at national level and thanked the ILO for its support for labour and social protection reforms.
The ILO Director-General appreciated the role played by the CNSM in Moldova’s ratification of ILO Convention No. 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment at Work and stressed the importance of its implementation.
The official also noted that the ILO will continue to assist in promoting the decent work agenda and protecting the rights of workers in Moldova in the context of accession to the European Union.
