Members of the Confederal Board of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) discussed on Friday, 19 April, with the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Oliver Röpke, about the role of trade union movement in Moldova’s European integration process.

The parties also analysed the work of trade union movement in the Republic of Moldova and the objectives for the next period, the situation on the labour market and the importance of strengthening social dialogue at all levels.

Igor Zubcu, President of the CNSM, referred to the initiative of creating an Economic and Social Committee in the Republic of Moldova, based on the EESC model, launched at the 13th meeting of the European Union-Republic of Moldova Civil Society Platform.

The President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Oliver Röpke, stressed that the CNSM is a strong voice of employees in the Republic of Moldova, referred to the EESC’s work and expressed his openness to develop cooperation with the CNSM and civil society in the Republic of Moldova, too.

The European Economic and Social Committee is a consultative body of the EU, made up of representatives of workers’ organisations and employers’ organisations, and other interest groups. The EESC issues opinions on EU-related issues to the European Commission, the EU Council and the European Parliament, acting as a bridge between the EU’s decision-making institutions and European citizens.
