Local Employment Partnerships (LEPs), implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in the Republic of Moldova, represent an effective solution for promoting employment and facilitating the transition to the formal economy. At the World Forum on Local Economic Development, held on April 1–4 in Seville, Spain, Moldova’s LEPs were showcased as examples of best practices.
Trade unions play a central role in the LEPs, actively contributing to the protection of workers’ rights and the creation of decent working conditions. Polina Fisticanu, representative of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) and head of the CNSM’s Department for Socio-Economic Protection, emphasized during a panel discussion the importance of trade unions in promoting high labor standards and integrating vulnerable groups into the labor market. Trade unions also facilitate social dialogue, working closely with employers and authorities to develop sustainable employment solutions at the local level.
The experience of the Republic of Moldova in implementing LEPs, and their positive impact on the labor market, was presented at the forum by Violeta Vrabie, project coordinator at ILO Moldova, together with Vladislav Caminschi, representative of the National Confederation of Employers of the Republic of Moldova.
Moldova’s participation in the forum reaffirms the country’s commitment to an inclusive and sustainable economy. CNSM continues to support social dialogue and the development of effective employment policies aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Since 2018, the ILO has implemented seven LEPs in Moldova, facilitating job creation, skills development, the integration of vulnerable groups into the labor market, and the transition to formal employment.
The World Forum on Local Economic Development brings together governments, international organizations, and local actors to develop effective partnerships and policies for economic development at national, regional, and local levels.
