On April 17, 2025, a new meeting of the National Commission for Consultations and Collective Bargaining (NCCNC) was held, during which several issues of major importance were discussed, including: the mechanism for reviewing the minimum wage in accordance with EU Directive 2022/2041, the current situation at the Moldovan Railways and other topics.

The President of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), Igor Zubcu, underlined the importance of raising the minimum wage to 6000 lei as of July 1, 2025. In this regard, a joint letter was recently sent to Prime Minister Dorin Recean by the CNSM and the National Confederation of Employers of the Republic of Moldova (CNPM).

The trade union leader argued that this increase is essential to maintain the purchasing power of employees in the context of inflation and continuous price increases, to support the implementation of the EU Directive on adequate minimum wages, to support vulnerable people, to fight in-work poverty and to reduce social inequalities.

The need to increase the minimum wage was also supported by CNPM President Leonid Cerescu at the same meeting.

In the context of the “Bugetul + Plus” budget rectification, the CNSM and the CNPM asked the Government to prioritize the resources allocated to the additional personnel expenditure (over 290 million lei) to be directed to the increase of the minimum wage.

The Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, said that the request to raise the minimum wage will be examined in the next budget rectification.

Another important topic discussed was the salary arrears of the employees of the Moldovan Railways, estimated at over 190 million lei. Representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development presented information on the dialogue between the authorities and the Trade Union Federation of Railway Workers of the Republic of Moldova, aimed at contributing to the resolution of the trade unionists’ demands and improving the situation in the railway sector.
