The President of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM), Igor Zubcu, met on Tuesday, June 7, in Geneva, Switzerland, with Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). Sergiu Sainciuc, vice-president of CNSM, also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, topical issues were addressed, including the socio-economic situation in the Republic of Moldova, the social protection reforms implemented in the last period, as well as the problems faced by employees, trade union members, negotiations within the social partnership, CNSM proposals related to the establishment of a single minimum wage, improving the situation in the field of safety and health at work, the position of the CNSM on the expected labor law reforms (which diminish the rights and guarantees of employees).

Igor Zubcu, President of CNSM, informed about the situation regarding the refugee crisis in Ukraine, the support provided by the authorities and the representatives of the civil society for managing this crisis, the involvement of CNSM and the National Branch Trade – Union Centers in the process of supporting Ukrainian refugees, they were accommodated at the sanatoriums subordinated to the CNSM. Also, the CNSM president informed about the results of the IV Congress of CNSM, held on June 3, 2022, the Declaration of the delegates to the Congress submitted to the authorities, the plans and strategic objectives of the Confederation for the next five years.

Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation, appreciated the efforts of trade unionists in the Republic of Moldova in the process of providing support for Ukrainian refugees and the actions of the social partners in order to implement reforms in the field of social and economic protection of the population.

We would like to point out that between 5-10 June, Igor Zubcu, president of CNSM, and Sergiu Sainciuc, vice-president of CNSM, participates at the 110th session of the ILO International Labor Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. During the conference, several reports on the world of work, respect for labor rights in different regions of the world, recommendations on decent work, safety and health at work, the future of work are approached.
